About Kinnikkinnick

Kinnickinnick, also spelled kinikinik or kinnikinnick, is a traditional Native American smoking blend made from a mixture of dried herbs. The term "kinnickinnick" is derived from the Algonquian language and translates to "smoking mixture" or "mixture for smoking."



The specific ingredients used in kinnickinnick can vary depending on the region and cultural traditions of the Native American tribes. However, common herbs and plants used in kinnickinnick blends include:


1. Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi): Bearberry leaves are a common component of kinnickinnick blends. They have a pleasant aroma when burned and are believed to have spiritual and medicinal properties.


2. Red Willow Bark (Cornus sericea): The inner bark of red willow, also known as red osier dogwood, is often included in kinnickinnick blends. It adds a mild flavour and can help create a smooth smoke.
